Thx for reporting the issue and the detailed steps to reproduce.
I will look into it to fix it in the next release.
BTW, don't hesitate to add such issues directly to the issue tracker.

The list of custom actions is also not updated for 2010/2013. It defaults to adding the CA to Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.ApplicationManagement.

I received the following error from the current release (as of 05/08/2013) creating a custom action

Steps:
1) SPSF Artefacts -> Custom Actions and Ribbons -> Custom Action Group

2) Provide Name for CA GROUP -> Press OK

3) New Parent Feature, Used Defaults for Name/Title/Description, Scope = Farm and selected Create Feature Receiver

4) Used Default Title,Description, Ensured Sequence was 100, Set Location to Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.ApplicationManagement (Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.ApplicationManagement)

5) Pressed Finish

Error:

Microsoft.Practices.RecipeFramework.ActionExecutionException: An exception occurred during the binding of reference or execution of recipe CustomActionGroup. Error was: Action CreateElementsXml failed to execute:
Feature CTP_FBA_ADLDSConfiguration not found. Could not add feature to package..
You can remove the reference to this recipe through the Guidance Package Manager. ---> System.Exception: Feature CTP_FBA_ADLDSConfiguration not found. Could not add feature to package.

Hi Sven,

sorry, yes we haven't had time yet to invest into that one.
Especially with the recent update to VS2012 and SP2013.

You could really help us by providing a working deployable solution with a managed metadata field and a description which parts would make sense to parametrize.

That would leave us only to make the wizard. Of course you are also very welcome to test afterwards.

As a community project the we live from the community :-)
The more support we get, the quicker we can realize new features!

Hi Timmes,

sorry for the long lack of updates!
Unfortunately the new version with new SP2013 related features takes longer as we expected. Also we are currently focusing most of our available time on getting a community edition of SPCop out (read more at [http://sharepointcop.codeplex.com])

That's why we decided to release an updated version of SPSF with only minor new features but with VS2012 and SP2013 support.
It should be available very soon, when all basic tests are going fine.

short question on this: Is there currently a workaround to use SPSF with Visual Studio 2012? Or do I also need to install VS2010 on my VM/Server to use SPSF (that would be bad)?

9 out of 10 times this is because you did not add the attribute Overwrite="TRUE" to the Field node:

Here is an example:

Sounds ok, as long as they are the SP2010 assemblies and not the SP2007. But as you want to do a Ribbon that is obvious I guess.

Unfortunately i cannot help you further with that. This is not SPSF related as the class is coming from the SharePoint dll and should be available. If not, then something else is wrong with your environment.

I'm fairly new to creating BDC Class projects using SPSF and wanted to know the best way to do data validation to New and Updated Items. I can create BDC projects OK using SPSF, but don't know the best way to do data validation so if the user types in incorrect data they get a useful error message

Am I missing anything?

Application pages generated with SPSF shouldn't be any different to applications pages you create in another way.

The only thing I currently see that differs is that the SPSF application page does not have

<%@ Import Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages"

in the aspx file.

But as you say, when you copy the content to another application page 1:1 you don't get the issue, so the code seems not to be the problem...
Can you provide a sample project in order to reproduce the issue?

SubMenuTemplate is a class in the Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls namespace.
It should be automatically included in the namespaces section of the class.

Have you checked if your reference in the project to Microsoft.SharePoint.dll is working?

I am new to your software plug-in and recently installed and tried to create a new custom action for a ribbon. I am getting a namespace error right away stating "SubMenuTemplate" not found. How do I resolve this error?

Here is a small snippet if the first method...

Hi,

BDC worked fine for me using SPSF in SharePoint 2010 as well as SharePoint 2013 as well :)

You can try this Deploy your BDC model to a specific BCS Service using Visual Studio 2010

Or you can try this

1-Delete the created BDC Service Proxy Application or check if you have already created
2- Make sure Business Data Connectivity Service started on the server
3- Re-Create BDC Service proxy App

Windows Server 2008 R2 Full Updates
SQL Server 2008 R2 with SP2
VS 2010 Utlimate no Extensions

Now the problem is only with the IMAGE Type
